Session Notes for RD1304 Prepared by J. Gipson & K. Le Bail, NVI, Inc./GSFC =========================================================== PURPOSE AND GENERAL NOTES =========================================================== Vetting of sources for the good geodetic catalog Good geodetic sources are scarce. In 2011, 39 of them were removed because of time variability of their position (Special Handling Sources). At the current time there are 266 sources in source.cat.geodetic.good. To select a set of additional geodetic sources, we use Jing Sun's approach described in her PhD thesis. Our criteria are as follows, slightly modified from Sun's: - The structure index SI is less than or equal to 2.5 (IERS technical note no 35, Table 1, 701 sources); - The X-band flux of the sources is greater than 0.25 Jy (flux.cat, 658 sources). We obtain a set of 152 sources. 105 are in our initial list of good geodetic sources, 47 are not. We are interested in these 47 sources which are not in our geodetic catalog. The goal is two-fold. First we want to verify that we can actually observe these sources. Second we want to get accurate flux models for the sources. Assuming that we successfully detect these sources we will add them to the geodetic catalog. In this R&D session network configuration, we schedule 29 sources. 18 of the remaining sources in our list are not efficiently visible with this network configuration. We use a 512 Mbps recording mode. Kokee and Wettzell will observe INT I13099 during the time from 1815 UT to 1945 UT. ----- Parameter listing -------------------------------------- Experiment: RD1304 Description R&D-06/2013 Scheduler: NASA Correlator: HAYS Start: 2013-177-18:00:00 End: 2013-178-18:00:00 Greenwich sidereal time: 12:20:00.00 (18:00:00 UT) Sun's RA and DEC: 6h 23.0m 23d 19.9 =========================================================== First observations Observation listing from file ./RD1304.skd for experiment RD1304 Source Start DURATIONS name yyddd-hhmmss Hh Ho Kk Ma Ny Wf Wz 2059+034 13177-180000| 40 40 | 3C274 13177-180000| 70 62 46 70 40| End of listing. =========================================================== Last observations Observation listing from file ./RD1302.skd for experiment RD1304 Source Start DURATIONS name yyddd-hhmmss Hh Ho Kk Ma Ny Wf Wz 1909+161 13178-175433| 157 157 154 101| 0834-201 13178-175438| 161 161 | 0059+581 13178-175837| 40 40 40 40 40| End of listing. =========================================================== SKED Summary from file ./rd1304.skd for experiment RD1304 (all scans with at least one subnet station) Average number of obs. per baseline per source(normalized by up-time) = 6.5 Min = 0.0 Max = 58.8 (Baseline Ho-Wz on 0403-132) RMS = 10.6 Total time: 1439 minutes ( 24.0 hours).
