DOY 269-270 Algonquin(G): Due to a bug in the scheduling program that affected the MkIII stations, Algonquin and Hobart recorded the entire session in MkIII mode B, instead of the intended mode C. As a result, data from only 7 USB frequency channels -- 4 X-band and 3 S-band -- were written, and they were written onto the wrong tracks. By using the crosspoint switches in the station units, the correlator was able to recover the misplaced data. The consequences of having only 7 channels include: 1) SNR is reduced by root-2. 2) S-band multiband delay ambiguity spacing with the 3 channels S1, S3, and S5 is 33.3 ns, rather than the nominal 200 ns. 3) X-band MBD ambiguity spacing with the 4 channels X1, X3, X5, and X7 is the nominal 50 ns, but there are potential subambiguity problems due to the presence of multiple peaks in the delay resolution function that differ in height by <10%. MBD window functions were applied to the Algonquin and Hobart X-band data in fourfit, in an attempt to pick the correct DRF peak, but complete success is absolutely not guaranteed! Gilcreek(A): OK. HartRAO(J): No data before 270-1200. Because the experiment procedure file was not created until then, the rack and recorder were not set up properly for the first 19 hours, and all data were written at the same headstack position. Hobart(H): Same recording mode problem as at Algonquin. X-band subambiguity problems are likeliest on the Hobart/Seshan baseline, for which only 3 frequency channels are available. Fringed with manual phases at X and S. Phase cal was very unstable on all time scales from seconds on up, and cable cal readings jumped from scan to scan by up to 2 ms, which corresponds to 5 ns of 1-way cable delay. The sampler problem that caused the 100-ns instability in the singleband delay for S-band and for channel X8 in C1002 and in other core-1 sessions was also present in C1004. Because of the loss of channel X8 due to the recording mode mix-up, however, this problem had no effect on the X-band multiband delays in this session. Matera(I): Uncooled receiver used, with higher than normal Tsys and SEFD. Schedule took higher SEFD into account. Seshan(C): Tagged along for the first 6 hours to test the new wideband X-band system. Fringe amplitudes in channels X7 and X8 are only 20-30% as strong as in the lowermost channels. After the session ended, a waveguide connection problem between the feed and preamp that caused a factor of 3-4 increase in Tsys in the top X channels was discovered and fixed. Channels X7 and X8 were deleted in fringing in order to prevent fourfit from assigning a 'G' code to most Seshan X-band scans.
